Blog Carnival: The Nothing-Eater, The Thing-Between
A fragment of a world that once was or might yet be...
The nothing-eater writhes, mindlessly pressing at its prison in the gap between existence and the divine - sealed away by the gods, for their own comfort, save the memory of the thing.
The power of the lords and ladies of the heavens now wanes - their once worshipful subjects turning to science and reason rather than transacting in rituals and miracles.
The thing-between grinds at its confinement, slithers through, touches the prime material - a tiny part of its fractal-infinitude finally free to sate its hunger, to gnaw upon the bones of existence.
The world twists and bends and groans, wishing it might break if only its torment might end; the gods huddle in their dim palaces.
Together, multitudinous mortals and frail gods gaze upon the nothing-eater, the thing-between, wondering if they might somehow escape this fate.
My small entry for the January 2025 Blog Carnival - Other, Between, and Under - The Worlds Beyond.
